How do I get involved?

And to some, his ‘gift’ was that they should be apostles;

to some prophets; to some, evangelists; to some, pastors and teachers;

to knit God’s holy people together for the work of service to build up the Body of Christ,

until we all reach unity in faith and knowledge of the Son of God

and form the perfect Man, fully mature with the fullness of Christ himself.

If we live by the truth and in love, we shall grow completely into Christ,

who is the head by whom the whole Body is fitted and joined together,

every joint adding its own strength,

for each individual part to work according to its function.

So the body grows until it has built itself up in love.

Ephesians 4:11-13,15-16

Welcome to Our Lady of Fatima Parish! We believe that each one of us is unique and blessed with gifts and talents meant for sharing. It is awe-inspiring to see what happens when people use their passion and talent to serve others. Click here for some real-life ministry stories.

We are an active parish and we would not be able to offer the services of our many ministries if not for the dedication of ordinary people using their God-given talents to accomplish extraordinary things!

Here is a small sampling of the many gifts being shared in our parish community:

·         Make crafts to sell at parish bazaar

·         Make posters

·         Bake treats for Coffee Sunday

·         Answer phones, book mass intentions

·         Prepare games and crafts for children during Children’s Liturgy

·         Greet people at church entrance

·     For more examples click here poster

What are YOUR interests, passions and talents? What brings you joy? When do you feel closest to God? Perhaps you write, draw or play a musical instrument. Perhaps you love visiting with people...are good with computers...enjoy teaching... There is ALWAYS room for your gifts at Our Lady of Fatima Parish.

MINISTRY REPORT NEWSLETTER

RESPONSIBLE MINISTRY

At Our Lady of Fatima Parish all church staff and volunteers are required to complete the appropriate screening forms. Everyone must complete a Basic Volunteer Information Form. You may also be asked to provide references and a police check depending on the classification of your ministry (low, medium or high sensitivity). Let us continue to work together to provide a safe environment for all.

CURRENT OPPORTUNITIES

All ministries work together in order to fulfill our parish mission:

Our Lady of Fatima Parish, dedicated to the Mother of God,

seeks to fulfill the call of Jesus to “Come follow me,”

to be true worshipers of the Father through the power of the Holy Spirit,

and to love one another as Christ has loved us.

 DOES THIS SOUND LIKE YOU?...

I LOVE VISITING WITH PEOPLE!

Our Parish Pastoral Care Team has openings for people to bring communion to housebound parishioners in your neighbourhood. Must be patient, friendly and willing to attend training sessions. A police check is required (can be arranged through the parish).

I LOVE TO SING/PLAY A MUSICAL INSTRUMENT!

Our Music Ministry has openings for singers and/or instrumentalists in each of our choirs. Saturday 4:30pm mass (traditional music/organ), practise on Wednesday nights.

Sunday 8:30am mass (traditional music/keyboard), practise on Monday nights.

Sunday 10:00am mass (traditional music/keyboard), practise on Thursday nights.

Sunday 11:30am mass (contemporary keyboard/guitar), practise on Thursday nights.

Must be willing to attend practise each week, in addition to singing at the mass. Why not attend a few practise sessions to try it out?

I LOVE TO BAKE / COOK!

All women of the parish are considered to be part of the Ladies of Fatima. Ongoing events include Coffee Sunday (3rd Sunday of the month after all Sunday morning masses), Lenten Pauper Supper, Easter Vigil Parish Reception, dinner for CNIB, Strawberry Social, annual Bazaar...and more! You will work with a fun, dedicated group of women who enjoy preparing food and serving up hospitality. Must be reliable and have a great sense of humour!

I AM COMFORTABLE ASSISTING THOSE WHO ARE GRIEVING.

Our Parish Funeral Team provides comfort and assistance to grieving families. The Team meets with family members to plan the funeral liturgy and to provide a reassuring presence. Team members must be compassionate and non-judgmental, with excellent listening skills. Must have a flexible schedule and be available on short notice as you will work in pairs and be on-call one week per month. Meetings take place here at the parish, training is provided.

I CAN’T MAKE A WEEKLY COMMITMENT BUT WOULD LOVE TO HELP OCCASIONALLY WHEREVER I’M NEEDED!

Consider becoming a member of our ELF TEAM. We call on our helpful elves to assist on special projects throughout the year. These short-term assignments can include anything from stuffing envelopes and making photocopies to organizing cupboards and helping with landscaping. As an elf you have the right to decline if the project or timing isn’t right for you – don’t worry, we’ll try you again!

I’D LIKE TO BE INVOLVED BUT I’M NOT SURE WHICH MINISTRY WOULD SUIT ME BEST!

No problem! Come in for a get-to-know-you chat. Together we can discuss your interests and find a match for you in one of our ministries.

MY SCHEDULE IS SO FULL – I’D LIKE TO BE INVOLVED BUT RIGHT NOW TIME IS AN ISSUE!

There are many ways to contribute to our parish community. Here are some ideas:

1.      Bring non-perishable food to Mass. Leave it with one of the hospitality ministers (ushers). Donations will go to the Britannia Woods Food Pantry.

2.      Bring sandwiches on Wednesday morning before 9:30am. The Shepherds of Good Hope collect them to bring to the needy downtown.

3.      Make crafts at home to donate to our annual Christmas Bazaar.

4.      Make/purchase items for our annual Pro-Life Baby Shower.

5.      Purchase items for our annual Native Christmas Stocking project. Toys and gifts are sent to a northern native mission.

6.      Pray for us and the work of our ministries.

I LOVE WORKING WITH CHILDREN!  Several teaching opportunities are now available for those who enjoy teaching or assisting with crafts and games.

1)      Children’s Liturgy takes place during the 11:30am Sunday Mass in the Parish Hall. Volunteer duties range from room set up/clean up to lesson preparation and activity planning. Schedules are prepared according to your availability. Why not join the team?

2)      Sacramental Preparation begins in January and continues until the end of April. Teachers prepare students for the Sacraments of Reconciliation and Eucharist. Meetings are Tuesday nights from 6:30pm – 7:30pm.

These positions are best suited to someone with a calm, friendly demeanour who is patient and can relate well to young children and parents. A police check is required (can be arranged through the parish).

d the work of our ministries.

I LOVE SHARING MY FAITH!

1)      Why not join the RCIA team to journey with candidates who are interested in becoming Catholic? Team members assist the Coordinator with discussion topics and faith sharing. If you are comfortable speaking in front of a group of people about faith issues, this opportunity could be for you! Weekly sessions run Thursday nights from 7pm-8:30pm from October 14, 2010 to May 5, 2011. OR...

2)      Consider becoming a Sponsor! Be matched with a candidate and become their faith mentor as you invite them to mass, other parish functions and attend the RCIA sessions with them. Show them what it’s like to be a member of this Catholic community. This is an opportunity to really make a difference in someone’s life. Sponsors should be willing to share their faith in a non-judgmental and welcoming manner.
